In thoughtfully designed homes, every detail matters—and that includes the placement and appearance of electrical outlets. While they’re essential to modern living, outlets can often interrupt the visual harmony of a space. That’s why we take great care in finding ways to camouflage them, allowing the architecture and materials to remain the focal point.
At Marie Flanigan Interiors, our go-to solution is the use of Bocci-style outlets. These sit nearly flush with the surface—whether that’s millwork, stone, or concrete—and can be custom-colored to blend in seamlessly. Their low-profile design makes them feel like part of the architecture, not an afterthought.
We also frequently install outlets beneath upper cabinetry. This keeps backsplashes clean and uninterrupted, allowing special tilework or hand-applied plaster to truly shine. In some spaces, we take it a step further, hiding outlets inside drawers or within the legs of islands. These unexpected placements keep surfaces clear and power access discreet.
When outlets must be visible, we often turn to faux finishing. Painting outlet covers to match surrounding walls—whether plaster, wallpaper, or color-matched paint—helps them disappear into the background.
Pop-up outlets are another helpful option, particularly in kitchens or wet bars. Integrated into countertop surfaces, they sit flush when not in use and rise when needed, preserving the beauty of a stone or quartz surface.
In every project, the goal is the same: to create spaces where function and beauty coexist, and every element—down to the smallest detail—feels intentional. Outlets may seem insignificant, but when thoughtfully placed and designed, they contribute to the overall serenity and cohesion of a home.
